School History
Ang Mo Kio Primary School (AMKPS) was established in 1978. The new Primary One students were housed in Dorset Primary School for the first three months after the school started. In April 1978, the students moved into its premises at 22, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. They were joined by students and teachers from Jalan Kayu Primary School, which had closed down that year. On 12 October 1978, AMKPS was officially declared opened.
On November 1992, the school moved to premises at Ang Mo Kio Street 21, which had been occupied by Ai Tong Primary School. On 3 September 1993, the new school was opened.
In 2002, Ang Mo Kio Primary School merged with Kebun Baru Primary School to form the new Ang Mo Kio Primary School. On 30 May 2002, the school moved to its present location at 20, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.
In 2010, AMKPS began its reconstruction work under PRIME. It was completed in 2012, fitted with new facilities such as a competition-ready indoor sports hall, a new classroom block, a library facelift, new learning support facilities, an extended staff room, as well as student-care rooms for future planning needs.
The school became a single-session school in 2013. The following year, AMKPS established the AMKPS Leadership Inspired Values in Education (ALIVE) Programme as its Learning for Life Programme. ALIVE aims to develop values-driven leadership habits in every student through a holistic curriculum – with an emphasis on being an effective and self-directed learner who is able to make right decisions as well as a responsible and concerned citizen of Singapore.
In 2015, AMKP staged its inaugural ArtXuberance event, aimed at showcasing students’ talent in music, arts and drama. In 2018, AMKP celebrated its 40th anniversary, with the theme “Forty-tude’. In the same year, the school focused on providing enhance support for high-needs students through a whole-school integrated support system. We worked to build students’ connectedness to learning, school and community through customized programmes, which included Project Home- an after school engagement for students.

School Motto
Aspire and be Inspired
School Crest

Yellow represents Vitality & Talents
Blue represents Loyalty & Honour
Red represents Confidence & Perseverance
Green represents Harmony & Equality
This design takes the concept of the "flaming desire" to achieve the best and to aspire.
The three twirls represent the cognitive, physical and moral development of our students.
The upward movement of the twirls signifies the aspiration to aspire an all round education represented by the sphere.
The circular band symbolises the collaborative efforts between the school and the community to inspire our students in their pursuit of excellence.
Collectively, these culminate in an individual who is able to contribute to society and meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
School Song
AMKP We Will Shine
Every day that goes on by
Offers hope for tomorrow
With all we have
We’ll make the best
Of our future, our lives
With our heads held high
Let our hearts prepare
To pursue our dreams
To serve and to share
We will soar on up
To the stars above
Where together we will shine!
Pressing onward, with courage
Truth and compassion
Our light will shine for our nation
As we reach for the world
(Repeat chorus)
AMKP We Will Shine!
