School History

Chong Shan Primary School was built in 1981 at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 and began operations in January 1982 with 570 pupils in 15 classes. The school was officially declared open on 12 September 1984.

In 1988, primary one pupils were taught the Reading and English Acquisition Programme (REAP) for the first time. Primary four teachers went for in-service training for Active Communicative Teaching (ACT).

In January 2001, Chong Shan Primary School merged with Townsville Primary School to become Townsville Primary School.

School Crest

The colours of the school are red and white, identifying it with the Singapore flag.

The nub of the crest, which is 善 (shan), is derived from the name of the school, 崇善 (Chong Shan). “Shan” meaning goodness, kindness or perfection. It is portrayed as a pot of young and upright plant, which signifies the growth of education.

The inner upward curve represents the glow of sunshine leading the pupils towards a bright future.
