Official opening of Chestnut Drive Secondary School. Mr. P. Selvadurai, then Member of Parliament for Bukit Panjang Constituency, planted a royal palm to symbolise the students’ growth with the school (1968).

Fajar Secondary School began with its 1st team of 17 teachers (1994).

The 1st jointly organized Greenridge and Fajar Secondary Schools’ Sports Day (1995).

School History

Established in January 1994, Fajar Secondary School began operations at the campus of Greenridge Secondary School as a government co-educational school. In 1996, the school moved to its current premises at 31 Gangsa Road.

In 2016, Fajar Secondary School and Chestnut Drive Secondary School merged, retaining the former’s name. The merged school operated from 58 Chestnut Drive from 2016 to 2017. It was accorded the Applied Learning Programme, ‘Sustainability through 21st-century Applied Critical and Inventive Thinking Skills’ and the Learning for Life Programme, ‘Rise to Lead’, which focuses on community and youth leadership.

Fajar Secondary School returned to its upgraded campus at 31 Gangsa Road in January 2018.

School Crest

The school crest bears the English and Chinese (励进中学) names of the school. ’Fajar’ means ‘Dawn’ in Malay. The colour yellow represents dawn, the life-giving rising sun, which signifies achieving success against all odds. The colour orange symbolises the warmth and energy of the sun. Blue represents loyalty, trust and responsibility to friends, family and nation.

The splash of colour encircling the letters ‘FJ’ symbolises the early morning sun rising from the dark night. It expresses the school’s aspiration for its students to find strength during difficulties and emerge victorious despite challenges. It is hoped that the students would become individuals who build healthy relationships and bring warmth to others, working well together in diversity. They persevere to bring about constant improvement, positive outcomes and high achievement in all circumstances.
