Our Founder, Mdm Lim Peng Tuan, who arrived in the early 1900s started a private school with 20 students. Her tenacity and compassion helped to establish Kheng Cheng School as an institution.

The school was reopened after 2 years in 1933 due to financial difficulties. Bilingual education saw lessons taught in Chinese and English.

The school moved to Derbyshire as enrolment increased. Parts of the building were destroyed in WW2 and the school closed once again. It reopened in 1946.

The school moved back to the original site in 2004 at Toa Payoh Lorong 3. The school has started PERI upgrading in 2018.

School History

Kheng Cheng School was established by Mdm Lim Peng Tuan in 1927 to provide education for the children in the neighbourhoods of Newton and Moulmein. The school moved to Moulmein Road in 1931 and then to Derbyshire Road in 1937. Under Mdm Lim’s leadership, the afternoon session was held for students who went to English schools in the morning, and this marked the beginning of bilingual education in Kheng Cheng School. The school relocated to its present site at Lorong 3 Toa Payoh, and it was officially opened on 30 August 1974. 

Following renovations, the school reopened in 2004. In 2017, the school celebrated its 90th anniversary, and the following year, it underwent PERI upgrading.

Kheng Cheng School distinguishes herself with the Learning for Life Programme, “Student Voice and Advocacy", which aims to raise students who proactively champion community service.

Blue: Perpetuation of Values
White: Dignity, Purity and Diligence
Gold: Honesty, Courage and Endurance

The upper part of the crest has a dark blue background with the name of the school in white. This symbolises the commitment of KHENG CHENG to Singapore's educational policy. The typeface is indicative of a school that is forward-looking.  
The lower part of the crest uses dark blue for the two ancient Chinese characters for KHENG CHENG (擎 青). This is symbolic of our endeavour to perpetuate traditional Asian values.  
The white letters in English and the white trim on the Chinese characters symbolise our commitment to uphold bilingualism. The gold border symbolises cohesiveness and cooperation.
