School History

Poi Ching School was founded in 1919 by the late Reverend Kwok Koh Mou (郭可模) as a Chinese-medium school on Victoria Street. In 1924, facing financial difficulties, the school came under the management of the Futsing Association and was subsequently relocated to the Association’s office on Queen Street.

In 1958, Poi Ching School became a government-aided institution. The school later moved from Queen Street to Toa Payoh in 1970. In 1992, it was selected by the Ministry of Education as a Special Assistance Plan (SAP) school, offering both English and Chinese as first languages.

Poi Ching School relocated once again in 2000 to its current premises at Tampines Street 71. The school launched its Bi-Cultural Programme in 2008. In 2014, it completed the PERI upgrading project, which included the construction of a new seven-storey teaching block. The following year, Poi Ching School transitioned to a single-session model and established a Student Care Centre to better support working parents.

In 2016, the school was accorded the Learning for Life Programme, “D’ARTS@PCS.”

In 2020, Poi Ching School was recognised with the Applied Learning Programme – the BEST Programme (Developing a Bilingual, Effective Speaker and WriTer in Every PCS Student). That same year, the school celebrated its 100th anniversary.
