School History
Yangzheng Primary School was established in 1905 by the Chinatown community. The school was then known as Yeung Ching School. In 1965, the school celebrated its 60th anniversary and the new school building on Club Street was completed. In 1970, the school became a co-educational school. Students could choose either Chinese or English as their first language. Between 1985 and 1987, Yeung Ching School merged with Telok Ayer and Peck Seah primary schools.
In 1988, the school became a government school and Yeung Ching School was renamed Yangzheng Primary School. In the same year, the school moved to its present location at Serangoon Avenue 3. From 2005 to 2006, Yangzheng Primary School celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Key Milestones

1905 | Establishment of Yeung Ching School as a private school for children in the Cantonese community. |
1908 | Official opening on 20 January with a population of over 100 students. |
1918 | Mansion known as ‘Cuilan Ting, 翠岚岗’ on Club Street acquired for school and a plot of land was also purchased as the school’s playground so that physical activities could take place. |
1923 | Establishment of female education department and full-day teachers’ training department. |
1927 | Discontinuation of classes for girls. |
1941 | Temporary cessation when the Japanese invaded Singapore, but was allowed to open classes again during the Japanese Occupation. |
1965 | Celebration of 60th anniversary and the opening ceremony of the school compound. |
1970 | The school became a co-educational school; students could choose either Chinese or English as their first language. |
1988 | Moved to a new building at Serangoon Avenue 3 and became a government school; renamed Yangzheng Primary School. |
2003 | Yeung Ching Alumni (renamed as Yangzheng Alumni) was established. |
2005 | Celebration of 100th anniversary with Minister for Education Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam as the guest-of-honour. |
2015 | Celebration of 110th anniversary with the theme, ‘Our Yangzheng. Our Celebration. Our Future’. |

School Crest
The school crest features the letter ‘Y’, which represents the school as well as the foundation and support it gives to the students. The school upholds the belief in the never-ending quest for knowledge, and this is depicted by the book that rests securely on the letter ‘Y’.
The colours blue and gold represent vitality and finest efforts, respectively. The three sides of the triangle stand for acceptance, love and perseverance.
